Queststone

Terms of use

Last updated 26 October 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and the maker of Queststone, the free iPhone and iPad app that turns chores and everyday tasks into quests. They're written so the whole family can read them. By using Queststone, you agree to them. If anything here is unclear, write to queststonesupport@gmail.com.

The short version

  • Queststone is free. Tips are optional, and a tip unlocks nothing.
  • There are no ads, and Queststone has no accounts or passwords of its own.
  • Children play with a parent's or guardian's OK, and that grown-up agrees to these terms for them.
  • Be kind and follow the community rules. Breaking them can get what you wrote taken down, or get you removed.
  • What you make in Queststone is yours. It stays on your devices and, if you turn it on, in iCloud. Our privacy policy explains the few things that reach us.
  • Queststone is made by one person and offered as it is.

Who makes Queststone

Queststone is made by Michael Silvera, an independent developer and the seller named on the App Store. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean the developer of Queststone, and "you" means anyone who uses it.

Who can use Queststone

Queststone is made for families. Couples, housemates, friends and people playing on their own can use it too.

Queststone doesn't ask anyone's age. If you're under 18, or not yet an adult where you live, you may use Queststone only with a parent's or guardian's OK. A parent or guardian who sets Queststone up for a child, or lets a child play it, agrees to these terms for that child and is responsible for how the child uses it.

If you're a kid reading this: check with the grown-up who looks after you before you play, and ask them if something here doesn't make sense.

What Queststone costs

Queststone is free to download and to play. There are no ads, no subscriptions and nothing to pay for to unlock. Gold, finds and everything in the shop are earned by playing. They can't be bought with money, and they have no value outside the game.

Settings has a tip jar, "Support Queststone", if you'd like to say thanks. A tip is a thank-you, and it unlocks nothing. If your family uses Ask to Buy, a parent approves each tip first. Tips are App Store purchases, so Apple handles any refund, under Apple's own terms.

Apple's part

You get Queststone from Apple's App Store. Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA") is your license to use the app, and these terms add to it. Where the two disagree about that license, the Standard EULA wins.

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. So:

  • Apple isn't responsible for Queststone or what's in it, and doesn't have to maintain or support it. That's our job.
  • If Queststone fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund what you paid for the app. Queststone is free, so that's nothing. Apple has no other warranty duty for it.
  • Apple isn't responsible for any claim about Queststone, such as product liability, a claim that it breaks a law or rule (including consumer protection and privacy laws), or a claim that it infringes somebody's rights. Those are ours to handle.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries can enforce these terms against you.
  • You confirm that you aren't in a country under a US government embargo, and aren't on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Queststone uses Apple's iCloud to keep guilds in step across phones and iPads. Apple stores that data under Apple's privacy policy.

What you make, and your family's data

What you write and make in Queststone, like hero names, quests, notes, boons, journeys and notices, stays yours. Without iCloud, it stays on your device. When you turn on "Keep my adventure in iCloud", your hero is kept in your own iCloud, and a guild is kept in the iCloud of the person who started it, shared with the people who join it.

You let Queststone store what you write and show it to the people the app shares it with: your guild, and anybody with your sigil, who sees your hero's name, portrait and companion. It's used for nothing else.

A few things reach us, or can be seen by us: your hero's entry in the sigil directory, invitations, short guild alerts, and any feedback or report you send us by email. The privacy policy explains what each one holds, how long it's kept, and how to delete it.

If you send us an idea for Queststone, we're free to use it, without owing you anything for it.

Playing fair: the community rules

Everyone agrees to the community rules when they turn on "Keep my adventure in iCloud" or join a guild. In short:

  • Be kind.
  • No bullying, hate or threats.
  • No sexual content.
  • Keep private things private.
  • Tell us when something is wrong.

Also, please don't:

  • use Queststone to break the law;
  • pretend to be somebody else;
  • look up sigils in bulk, or copy the sigil directory;
  • try to get into a guild, iCloud data or a directory record that isn't yours, or try to break or overload Queststone.

You're responsible for what you write in Queststone. People in your guild can read it, and anybody with your sigil can see your hero's name.

When rules are broken

Queststone has a few tools to help:

  • The word filter. On your device, it stops slurs, sexual words and strong profanity from being saved in anything other people read. It looks for whole words, in English, so it won't catch everything.
  • Report. On the hero card of somebody in your guild, Report opens an email to us about their name, their picture or something they wrote, and hides it on your device straight away. We look at every report within 24 hours.
  • Block. Under an invitation, Block declines it and hides that person's invitations on your device.
  • Leaving and removing. A guild's Guildmaster can take anybody out of the guild, and anybody can leave a guild.

As the community rules say, we take down anything that breaks them, and may remove people who keep breaking them. A guild lives in a family's own iCloud, and we can't see inside it, so what we can do depends on what reaches us. For example, we can help a Guildmaster remove someone, and we can take down records we're able to reach, such as a hero's entry in the sigil directory.

Keeping Queststone working

Guilds work best when everyone in them has the latest version of Queststone, so keep everyone's app up to date. Playing together needs iCloud: each phone or iPad has to be signed in to iCloud, with "Keep my adventure in iCloud" turned on.

We may change Queststone, add or take away features, or stop offering it. If we stop, we'll try to say so ahead of time.

Queststone is offered as it is

Queststone is made by one person and offered "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we make no promises about it beyond the ones in these terms. We can't promise that it will always be available, that it will be free of mistakes, that it will keep every bit of your progress, or that it will suit any particular purpose. Your quests and guilds live on your devices and in iCloud, which we don't control.

What we're responsible for

As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for indirect losses, or for losing progress, gold or data. We also aren't responsible for anything caused by iCloud, your device, or somebody else in your guild. Queststone is free, so if we are ever found responsible for something, the most we'll owe you is US$50, or what you tipped in the 12 months before, if that's more.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law gives you that can't be taken away, such as consumer rights where you live.

Queststone's name and art

The Queststone name and the app, with its art, words and sounds, belong to us or are used with permission. You're welcome to share screenshots and clips of your own play, for example with your family or on Reddit. Please don't copy, sell or reuse Queststone's art or code, or make anything that passes itself off as Queststone.

The pixel font Alagard is by Hewett Tsoi. The camp's fire and night-insect sounds are free (CC0) recordings by PagDev, OwlStorm and Ashe Kirk. Both are credited in the app.

Settings links to the Queststone community on Reddit, r/Queststone. It opens Reddit outside the app, where Reddit's own terms and privacy policy apply.

Stopping

You can stop using Queststone at any time. You can delete a hero, or everything, inside the app: Delete my data on My hero, or Delete everything at the foot of Settings. The privacy policy's section Your choices, and deleting your data explains what each one does.

If somebody breaks these terms or the community rules, we may take down what they wrote, and their hero's entry in the sigil directory. The parts of these terms about ownership, Queststone being offered as it is, what we're responsible for, and disputes keep applying after anyone stops using Queststone.

If something goes wrong between us

If you have a problem with Queststone, please write to us first. We'll try to sort it out together, and most things can be fixed with an email.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, USA, without regard to its rules on which law applies. Any court case about them goes to the state or federal courts in Indiana, though either of us may use a small claims court where it applies. If you live somewhere whose law lets you bring a case at home, or gives you protections that Indiana's law doesn't, these terms don't take that away.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For a bigger change, we'll also say so in the App Store's What's New for the version that brings it. Using Queststone after a change means you accept the new terms. If you don't, you can stop using Queststone and delete your data at any time.

A few last things

If one part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce something straight away, we can still do it later. These terms, the community rules and the privacy policy, together with Apple's Standard EULA, are the whole agreement between you and us about Queststone.
